Financial Planning and Legal Services
Frequently Asked Questions, about Financial Planning Services
Questions you might want to ask about my services and how I work with you, click here for FAQs.
My legal services are focused around estate and financial planning issues. I try to offer a flat rate price for my services on simpler matters whenever possible but charge a fee of $275 per hour plus taxes and my out-of-pocket expenses when this is not possible. For example, I offer a flat fee for basic Wills (i.e. no dependants from previous relationships and no elaborate trusts), but charge either a higher flat fee or by the hour for more complicated matters. I offer the following:
- Powers of Attorney
- Representation Agreements and Living Wills
- Life Insurance Trusts / RRSP & RRIF Trusts
- Shared Ownership Agreements for Life Insurance and Critical Illness Insurance
- Family Trusts, Alter Ego Trusts, Joint Spousal Trusts
- Spousal Loans
- Bare Trusts (used when owning property jointly with estate planning purposes).
Financial Planning Services
I try to provide flat fees for financial planning services whenever possible, unless this is not reasonably possible. I charge the same rate of $275 per hour plus taxes and out-of-pocket expenses that I charge for my legal services. I am also happy to simply consult on an hourly basis on any planning issues you may have.

My Services and How I Get Paid
I understand that everyone’s situation, values and priorities are unique. Accordingly, I offer of mixture of services, ranging in price based on the complexity of the issue and the time required. I can assist with issue-specific problems like drafting a Will or providing a retirement plan, or I can provide comprehensive and ongoing advice that will hopefully pay for itself many times over in money saved, enhanced quality of life and problems averted.
I do not sell investments or insurance as I believe that these are both full-time jobs, but I know that most clients aren’t used to paying for their financial advice directly. Accordingly, in order to my services more affordable while ensuring my clients get top notch advice in these areas, I have recently developed referral relationships with select insurance and investment experts that I believe are at the top of their fields.
The program works as follows: they charge you their regular rates or they earn their regular commission out of which they pay me a fee either up front or on a periodic basis, which I apply against the costs of doing your financial plan or ongoing planning work. I apply 50% of the fees I receive net of GST to either reduce what you owe me or against planning fees in the past or ensuing 12 months until my fees are reduced to 0%. After this point, I keep 100% of any referral fees.
As an added enticement, if you refer other financial clients my way who purchase a financial plan during this period, the amount of commission applied first against my fees increases by 15% per client until 100% of any referral fees after GST are first applied against my fees to you before I keep any for myself. Ultimately, my goal is for you to get my services for free while also ensuring that you work with top insurance and investment advisors with whom I communicate regularly. At the same time, if you are not interested in the fee rebate program for whatever reason, such because you wish to continue working with your own insurance or investment advisors or to do things on your own, I can continue to offer independent opinions and suggestions in order to help you achieve your financial goals.
